To convert other file formats to the "Simulation Model File" file type, you need software like Renque Simulation Software or a similar tool.

About RNQ files

An .RNQ file is a Renque Simulation Model, originally used by the defunct Renque software. These data files contain the complete setup for a discrete event simulation (DES), helping analysts and engineers map out complex business operations, manufacturing pipelines, and logistics. The file stores everything from interconnected system components and event calendars to timing rules and embedded data.

Because the official Renque software has been discontinued, users face a massive problem: you can no longer natively run these simulations or view the animated results on modern operating systems. The format is highly specialized and relies on a proprietary legacy engine to execute its internal logic. Finding a working installation of the software is almost impossible today.

However, there is a realistic workaround. Many .RNQ project files are actually encoded in standard ASCII format. This means you can salvage the underlying rules, scripts, and embedded spreadsheet data. The best conversion targets for these files are plain text formats like TXT, CSV, or XML. While you will lose the graphical animation capabilities of the original software, the crucial mathematical and logical text data can be recovered.

Standard online converters usually fail to process this format because they lack the niche simulation engine required to understand the event scripts. If our analysis detects the standard ASCII encoding, you can easily extract your simulation data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RNQ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

FAQ

If you want to convert RNQ file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Renque Simulation Software or similar software from the "Discrete Event Simulation Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to RNQ, try Renque Simulation Software or another comparable tool in the "Discrete Event Simulation Data" category.

The RNQ Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RNQ converter.
