About RLB files

The .RLB file extension primarily refers to a Rock Strength Analysis Project file created by Rocscience RocLab software. Geotechnical engineers use these files to store rock mass strength calculations based on the Generalized Hoek-Brown failure criterion. Secondarily, .RLB functions as a Product Label Design file for barcode and label layout software like Labeljoy.

Both applications create highly proprietary, single-purpose files. RocLab .RLB files require a specialized paid license to view the engineering calculations, severely limiting collaboration with non-engineers or clients. Similarly, label design .RLB files are locked to their parent software. If you send an .RLB file to a commercial printer or a colleague who uses Adobe Illustrator, they will not be able to open it.

To share this data practically, you must convert these files. For engineering collaboration, convert the rock strength analysis data to CSV for use in Microsoft Excel or export as PDF for final reporting.
