About RDO files

The .RDO file extension signifies a Raster Document Object, a proprietary document format developed by Xerox for use within their FreeFlow (formerly DocuSP) print workflow ecosystem.

Unlike standard formats, .RDO files are strictly containers for rasterized page images and job ticket metadata. They are typically generated by high-volume Xerox scanners or production print controllers. The primary disadvantage of this format is its severe proprietary lock-in: .RDO files cannot be opened by standard viewers like Adobe Acrobat, web browsers, or generic image editors. This can be a major source of frustration when archiving legacy documents or moving files outside the Xerox production environment. Users frequently find themselves with unreadable archives that require expensive, specialized software just to view.

To make these files accessible and future-proof, the best course of action is conversion. For archiving and general document sharing, converting .RDO to PDF (Portable Document Format) is the ideal solution, preserving the multi-page structure. For extracting individual pages for editing, converting to TIFF or JPG is recommended.

Convert.Guru analyzes your RDO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PKG, WAR and JNLP files.
