Convert RDO to another file type
To convert RDO documents to another format, you need Xerox FreeFlow or other Page Layout software.
Convert a file to RDO
To convert other file formats to the "Print Production File" file type, you need software like Xerox FreeFlow or a similar tool.
About RDO files
A .RDO file is a Raster Document Object, a proprietary format developed by Xerox for use in their FreeFlow software suite. It stores document pages as pre-rasterized images for high-speed digital print production. This allows printing presses to bypass the RIP (Raster Image Processor) stage, significantly accelerating output times.
These files are typically created and opened using Xerox FreeFlow Makeready or FreeFlow Reader. Users frequently struggle with .RDO files because the format is strictly proprietary and locks document data inside the Xerox ecosystem. You cannot open a .RDO file in standard web browsers, Adobe Acrobat, or typical image viewers. Furthermore, because the pages are fully rasterized at print resolution, the files are often massive, and the text within them is no longer editable or natively searchable.
Converting .RDO to PDF, TIFF, or JPG is necessary for sharing, archiving, and accessibility outside of a professional print shop. Converting to PDF restores universal viewing capabilities, though text will remain as static images unless processed through OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because the data structure is closed and undocumented. Often, only the original Xerox software can properly read or export the print data. However, convert.guru provides a pragmatic solution. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, inspect the internal file headers, and view embedded text or image streams. If our analysis detects standard underlying image formats embedded within the proprietary .RDO wrapper, viewing or extracting them may still be possible without an expensive software license.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RDO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RDO file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use Xerox FreeFlow or similar software from the "Digital Print Production" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to RDO, try Xerox FreeFlow or another comparable tool in the "Digital Print Production" category.
The RDO Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RDO converter.
