Convert a file to QUID
To convert other file formats to the "Legacy Word Processor Document" file type, you need software like QuidProQuo or a similar tool.
About QUID files
A .QUID file is a proprietary rich text document created by the now-discontinued QuidProQuo word processor, originally developed by Scratchware (now known as The 3000 Company). These files function similarly to standard RTF (Rich Text Format) documents, storing formatted text, font styles, specific text sizes, and basic page color metadata. The software was used primarily by Windows users seeking a lightweight alternative to heavier office suites before it was rebranded as QuidWriter and eventually sunset in early 2025.
Users frequently need to convert these files because the original Scratchware software is permanently discontinued, making the format incredibly niche and difficult to manage. Attempting to open a .QUID file in modern applications like Microsoft Word or Google Docs will trigger an unrecognized file error, severely hindering document sharing and long-term storage. Keeping data locked in this abandoned format carries a high risk of permanent data loss as older software versions become incompatible with modern operating systems.
The most practical solution is to convert your .QUID files into widely supported targets like RTF, DOCX, or standard PDF files. Converting to RTF is highly recommended because it preserves the original structural formatting of the document. Conversely, if you convert the file to a plain TXT file, you will lose all specialized fonts, bolding, italics, and layout styling.
Because .QUID is a closed, proprietary extension tied to a defunct developer, standard online file converters almost always fail to process it. They lack the specific parsing libraries required to recognize the legacy signature. Our platform inspects the underlying rich text structure, allowing you to bypass the need for old software and safely extract your original content.
Convert.Guru analyzes your QUID file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The QUID Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QUID converter.
