About QTR files

A .QTR file typically falls into one of two distinct categories, both presenting unique challenges for modern users. The most common variation is a QuickTime Extension Resource, a system component used by the legacy QuickTime 7 for Windows. These are essentially specialized libraries (similar to DLL files) containing codecs, effects, or interface resources. A major point of friction for users is mistaking these for actual video files; they cannot be opened by media players like VLC Media Player or converted directly to MP4 because they contain code and icons, not video streams.

The second significant format is the TrendWorX32 historical data file generated by ICONICS SCADA software (specifically GENESIS32). These files store industrial automation logs and historical trends. The primary constraint here is proprietary lock-in; the data is encoded in a binary format that standard spreadsheet software cannot read. Users needing to analyze this data for reporting or compliance typically need to convert these .QTR logs to CSV or XLSX (Microsoft Excel). While the original TrendWorX reporting tools handle this export, users without access to the licensed environment often struggle to extract the raw data for use in third-party analytics tools.

Convert.Guru analyzes your QTR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CQTR, MOV, PICT and AIF files.
