About Q99 files

The .q99 extension is a legacy data format primarily associated with Q99 Courseware, a proprietary system used for structuring language learning modules, vocabulary lists, and lesson plans. These files function as the central database for the courseware, linking text-based questions with internal logic for user progression. A significant limitation for users is that Q99 Courseware is effectively abandonware; finding a working installer for modern Windows or macOS is nearly impossible, leaving the data locked inside a binary proprietary container.

Approximately 29% of .q99 files are unrelated financial data files created by Quicken (specifically the 1999 version) by Intuit. These files store personal banking transactions and account balances. Modern versions of Quicken cannot open .q99 files directly; they require a "stepping stone" conversion process (installing intermediate versions like Quicken 2004) to migrate the data to a modern QDF format.

For Q99 Courseware files, the best conversion target is PDF (for archiving lesson text) or TXT (if extracting raw vocabulary data). For Quicken .q99 files, users must convert to QIF or CSV to import data into modern tools like Excel or QuickBooks.

Convert.Guru analyzes your Q99 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
