About PYV files
A .PYV file is a proprietary, DRM-protected video container primarily associated with the Yomvi streaming service (rebranded as Movistar+) and powered by Microsoft PlayReady technology. These files are used to cache movies and TV shows for offline viewing on authorized devices. Unlike standard MP4 or MKV video files, .PYV files are encrypted to prevent piracy; they are locked to the specific user account and hardware ID that downloaded them and often contain an internal expiration timer (e.g., 48 hours). Users typically encounter friction when trying to move these files to a USB drive for playback on a Smart TV or when attempting to open them in standard players like VLC Media Player or Windows Media Player, which will fail due to missing decryption keys. Because of this high-level encryption, direct file conversion is technically impossible without violating DRM. The only practical 'conversion' workflow involves using screen recording software like OBS Studio to capture the content while it plays in the official app, effectively saving it as a new MP4 file.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PYV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PYV file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use Movistar+ or similar software from the "Protected Video Stream" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to PYV, try Movistar+ or another comparable tool in the "Protected Video Stream" category.
The PYV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PYV converter.
