About PXX files
The .pxx extension primarily identifies a Promaxx Label Design file, a proprietary format used by Promaxx Design & Print software. These files act as templates for creating business cards, address labels, and media inserts, structured internally as a Microsoft Compound Document.
Users frequently face difficulties with .pxx files because they are tightly coupled to the specific Promaxx utility. Unlike standard DOCX or PDF files, a .pxx file cannot be opened in standard word processors or web browsers, effectively locking the content if the original software is missing or incompatible with modern OS versions. This proprietary lock-in makes sharing label designs difficult.
For practical use, the best workflow is to convert these designs to PDF (Portable Document Format). This ensures the print layout - crucial for alignment on physical label sheets - remains fixed regardless of the printer or device used. For archiving or further editing in standard tools, users might attempt to extract the text, but a visual conversion to PDF or TIFF is the only reliable way to preserve the complex alignment of text and images intended for physical labels.
A secondary, less common use of the .pxx extension is as a Keyman Encrypted Customization File. Generated by Keyman Developer, these are compiled, encrypted binaries used to bundle keyboard layouts and branding into installers. These files are securely locked and cannot be converted or reverse-engineered into editable source code.

The PXX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PXX converter.
