About PXJ files

The .PXJ file format is a proprietary disk authoring project file created primarily by Microsoft Windows and Roxio Creator. It is used to save the layout, track order, and burning settings for creating physical CDs and DVDs.

This format is widely managed by Roxio Creator NXT Pro and the legacy RecordNow software.

The biggest disadvantage of the .PXJ format is that it causes extreme user confusion. Users frequently mistake it for an audio or video file. However, .PXJ files contain zero media data. They are simply blueprint documents that point to the actual media files located elsewhere on your hard drive. Because the format is proprietary and strictly local, sharing a .PXJ file with someone else will fail; the recipient will only encounter broken links and an error message.

Since you cannot convert a .PXJ file into an MP4 or MP3, the best conversion targets are diagnostic. Converting the file to TXT or XML allows you to read the internal file paths and recover your lost media list.

Standard online converters fail to process this format because they attempt to extract media that does not exist. This file format is difficult to open or convert because only the original software can properly read the burning layout. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show internal text content. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible to extract your original file paths.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PXJ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
