About PWDP files

A .pwdp file is a proprietary encrypted text document used to securely store sensitive data like website credentials, bank details, and private notes. Originally created by Password Pad, a legacy application developed by Tan Thor Jen for macOS and iOS, these files rely on robust cryptographic protocols to hide plain text.

The primary disadvantage of the .pwdp format is its completely closed and proprietary nature. It locks your critical data behind XOR or 112-bit Triple DES encryption. Because the Password Pad app is essentially abandoned and receives no modern updates, users are frequently locked out of their own files when upgrading their Mac or moving to a Windows PC. The format requires the exact original app and the correct password to be read, making it entirely unsupported by web browsers or standard text editors.

To regain control of your data, the best targets for conversion are universally accessible formats like TXT, DOCX, or PDF. Exporting to a standard text format allows you to migrate your passwords into a modern, supported credential manager. Note that exporting strips away the file's encryption, leaving your output data as plain text.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because standard online converters cannot bypass the heavy encryption. Often, only the original Password Pad software can properly decrypt and export the data. We can identify the file format, inspect the underlying file signature to verify it isn't corrupted, and display any unencrypted header metadata. If our analysis detects a supported embedded structure or plain text, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PWDP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
