About PVOC files

The .PVOC file format stores vocabulary flashcards, images, and audio clips created by ProVoc, a discontinued Mac-only vocabulary training application developed by Arizona Software. Users primarily utilized it to build offline language learning databases and flashcard decks.

Because ProVoc is abandonware and unsupported on modern macOS environments, opening these files locally is extremely difficult. The format relies on a closed, proprietary data structure designed exclusively for older Apple operating systems. You need to convert .PVOC files to migrate your legacy vocabulary data to modern, cross-platform apps like Anki or Quizlet.

The best target formats for migration are standard text files like CSV or TXT, though embedded media like audio pronunciation clips and images will be lost during raw text extraction. Standard online converters fail to process .PVOC files because they lack open documentation and are practically obsolete. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because only the original 32-bit software was designed to parse the data properly. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as bundled XML or a SQLite database hidden inside the package - viewing your text or extracting the flashcards may still be entirely possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PVOC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DATA and MP3 files.

The PVOC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PVOC converter.
