About PROJECTOR files
The .projector file format is a Screencast Transcript generated by Google recording applications. It stores spoken text, timestamps, and playback metadata synchronized with a screen recording. Typically, these files are created and read exclusively by Google tools such as the ChromeOS Screencast app.
The primary disadvantage of the .projector format is its severe vendor lock-in. It is a proprietary data container. You cannot open it directly in standard word processors or third-party video players. If you want to use the transcript for external closed captions, offline editing, or sharing with non-Google users, the native file is practically useless.
To make this data accessible, you should convert it to standard formats. Target TXT for plain reading, or SRT and VTT if you need to retain the timing data for video subtitles. Be aware that highly specific internal metadata, such as UI event markers or proprietary speaker labels, will be lost when moving to a standard format.
Because this is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original Google software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying structure like JSON or XML, text extraction or subtitle conversion may still be successful.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PROJECTOR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The PROJECTOR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PROJECTOR converter.
