About PR4 files
The .pr4 extension is shared by four distinct formats, creating significant confusion for users attempting to open them.
Harvard Graphics Presentation (49%): The most common use is a legacy presentation file created by Harvard Graphics 4.0 (DOS/Windows). These files store vector graphics, charts, and slides. The Problem: Modern office suites like Microsoft PowerPoint dropped support for Harvard Graphics decades ago. Opening these requires locating an installed copy of Corel Presentations or using a specialized conversion service to migrate the content to PDF or PPTX for archiving.
KNX Project File (20%): In building automation, a .pr4 file is a project export from ETS3 (specifically version 3.0d-e). The Problem: Current versions of ETS6 use the .knxproj format. To access the building topology and device data inside a .pr4 file, you must use the "Import" function in the ETS software rather than simply double-clicking the file.
Port Royale 4 Savegame (13%): These are binary save states for the strategy game Port Royale 4. They contain encrypted progress data and are not meant to be manually edited.
Mitsubishi Parameter File (8%): Used by FR Configurator2 for frequency inverters. Unlike the others, this is often an XML-based text file containing drive settings, making it human-readable but best managed within the official Mitsubishi software.
