About PMLZ files

A .PMLZ file is a compressed archive containing a Palm Markup Language (.PML) document alongside its referenced images. It was used to distribute eBooks for the now-defunct Palm OS personal digital assistants (PDAs) using software like Peanut Reader (later known as eReader). Historically, you would open them with the eReader application, but modern users typically rely on standard archive utilities like 7-Zip to extract the contents or eBook management tools like Calibre.

The format is entirely obsolete. Modern devices like the Amazon Kindle, Apple iPad, or Kobo do not support .PMLZ files. Opening them directly on modern smartphones or PCs without specialized legacy software is impossible. Keeping eBooks in this format restricts your ability to read them on current hardware.

You must convert these files to modern standards like EPUB, PDF, or MOBI. Because .PMLZ is just a ZIP container, unzipping the file yields a standard PML text file and images, which can then be compiled into a standard eBook format. However, standard online converters often fail because they do not recognize the legacy Palm structure inside the wrapper.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PMLZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
