Extract text from PrintMaster projects (PMJ)

A .PMJ file is primarily a digital scrapbook or desktop publishing project created by PrintMaster or legacy Serif CraftArtist software. These files contain multi-layer page layouts, including text formatting, vector shapes, image placements, and custom graphics. A small number of .PMJ files are also used as configuration data for the Pegasus Mail email client.
The main disadvantage of the .PMJ format is its strictly proprietary nature. It is a closed ecosystem. You cannot natively open these files in web browsers, standard image viewers, or even other desktop publishing tools like Adobe InDesign. Users are forced to buy and install specific Broderbund software just to view their own designs. Furthermore, because .PMJ is a layout document rather than a flattened image, the file relies on local system fonts and absolute paths to linked assets, which often break when moved to another computer.
For sharing or professional printing, you must convert these projects. The ideal target formats are PDF for preserving print-ready vector layouts, or JPG and PNG for quick social media sharing.
