A .PLSK file is a Messenger Plus! Live Skin Pack originally used to customize the visual interface of the discontinued Windows Live Messenger software via the Messenger Plus! Live add-on.
These files were exclusively managed natively by Messenger Plus! Live, a popular chat extension created by the developer Patchou.
The primary disadvantage of a .PLSK file today is total obsolescence. Both Windows Live Messenger and Messenger Plus! Live are defunct. You cannot open or use these skin packs on modern operating systems or messaging platforms. Furthermore, the format is a specialized container, meaning standard image viewers cannot display the graphics directly, leaving the data trapped inside.
The most practical conversion target is extraction to a ZIP archive. This allows you to access the individual XML layout files, PNG icons, and background images that make up the skin.
