The .PIECE file extension is most frequently associated with SigmaNEST, a leading CAD/CAM nesting software developed by SigmaTEK Systems. In this industrial context, the file contains vector geometry, material specifications, and cutting path definitions used to automate CNC machinery for sheet metal fabrication. These files are typically XML-based but are strictly tailored for the SigmaNEST environment. A secondary, less common occurrence of this extension is as an internal fragment within Microsoft XPS documents (XML Paper Specification). When an XPS file is decompressed (as it uses ZIP compression), individual page components or resources may be extracted as generic 'piece' files.
