About PFR files

.PFR files are primarily Portable Font Resource files developed by Bitstream for the TrueDoc font standard. They were used in the late 1990s to embed fonts into web pages viewed with Netscape Navigator. A secondary use for the .PFR extension is as a Picture Frame file in Corel PaintShop Pro, which stores raster graphics used as decorative borders around images. Another rare use is as a Printer Font Resource for Adobe Acrobat. The TrueDoc .PFR format is completely obsolete. Modern web browsers do not support it. Opening these files natively requires legacy software from the 1990s. Furthermore, the format is highly restrictive and proprietary. If you find a .PFR font file, it is unusable in modern web development or desktop publishing. To use these fonts today, you must convert them. For web deployment, convert .PFR to WOFF or WOFF2. For desktop installation on Windows or macOS, convert to TTF or OTF. If you have a PaintShop Pro Picture Frame file, you can convert it to PNG to extract the border image with a transparent background.
