The .PDH file is a ProntoDoc for Word Browser Display Document Template developed by Step Function. It is used in enterprise environments to store layout designs and data-binding rules for automated document generation. These templates allow businesses to merge database records with Microsoft Word layouts to produce reports that display cleanly in web browsers.
The main disadvantage of the .PDH format is that it is strictly proprietary. It requires a specific, often expensive, enterprise Microsoft Word add-in to open or edit. Standard word processors like Google Docs or LibreOffice cannot read the file. If you receive a .PDH file without having the ProntoDoc environment installed, it is practically useless and locks you out of the document's design.
Ideally, users need to convert .PDH files to DOCX or PDF to review the template layout. However, standard online converters fail to process this format because its internal structure relies on closed, proprietary data bindings that only the original software understands.
