About PCAST files

The .PCAST file is an XML-based subscription link or configuration file used primarily by Apple iTunes to add podcast feeds to a user's local media library. It is typically opened natively with Apple Podcasts or older iterations of iTunes (see Podcast on Wikipedia). The major disadvantage of this format is its proprietary wrapping of what is essentially a standard RSS web link. Users often encounter .PCAST files expecting them to be actual audio recordings, only to discover they are tiny text files that cannot be played in standard media software. Furthermore, modern non-Apple podcast managers do not recognize this extension, locking users into the Apple ecosystem. To use the feed data in other applications, you must convert the file or extract its contents to standard XML, TXT, or OPML. Converting to these formats loses the automatic 'click-to-subscribe' behavior in macOS, but exposes the raw RSS feed URL for universal use. Because this is a closed, proprietary wrapper masquerading as an audio-related file, standard online audio converters completely fail to process it.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PCAST file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
