About PANIC files

A .panic file is a system diagnostic log generated by Apple macOS immediately following a kernel panic - a fatal system error that forces the computer to restart. These files contain crucial debugging information, including the panic string, loaded kernel extensions (kexts), and stack traces, usually structured in a JSON format in modern macOS versions. While invaluable for developers and IT professionals, the .panic extension is proprietary to the Apple ecosystem. A major drawback is that these files do not natively open on Windows or Linux, and even on macOS, they default to the Console application, which may not be convenient for quick sharing. Furthermore, automated support ticketing systems often reject unknown file extensions for security reasons. To share these logs with support teams, posting on forums like Stack Overflow, or archiving crash history, the best workflow is to convert the file. Convert to TXT or JSON to open the raw data in any code editor like VS Code, or convert to PDF to create a stable, read-only document that can be viewed on any device without formatting issues.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PANIC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SH, LN and SSD01 files.
