About PA2 files
The .PA2 extension serves two distinct, specialized industries, creating frequent confusion for users trying to access the data inside.
Most commonly, it acts as a SPAN Risk Parameter file, a critical data format utilized by CME Group for its Standard Portfolio Analysis of Risk (SPAN) framework. These files contain arrays of margin requirements and risk variables for futures and options trading. While essential for clearing houses and traders, the format is rigid and difficult to parse without legacy tools like PC-SPAN. Users often struggle to integrate this data into modern analytics platforms or Excel without manual extraction. For financial analysis, converting these datasets to CSV or XLSX is the most practical workflow to make the risk arrays readable and actionable.
Alternatively, a .PA2 file may be a structural engineering project created by Hilti PROFIS Anchor software (now transitioning to PROFIS Engineering). These files store anchor design calculations, load values, and base plate specifications, often formatted in XML. The main challenge here is proprietary versioning; older .PA2 files may not open correctly in newer cloud-based suites, locking away vital safety calculations. For archiving or sharing engineering specs with clients who lack the software, converting these designs to PDF or standard XML is the recommended solution.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PA2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PA2 file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use PC-SPAN or similar software from the "Financial Risk Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to PA2, try PC-SPAN or another comparable tool in the "Financial Risk Data" category.
The PA2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PA2 converter.
