The .p83 file is a legacy construction tender document formatted as a GAEB DA 2000 Request for Quotation (Angebotsaufforderung). It contains detailed project descriptions, Bills of Quantities (BoQ), and itemized cost structures used by architects and clients in the German construction industry to request contractor bids. The format is primarily managed using specialized bidding software like GAEB-Online or the GAEB Toolbox.
Because .p83 is an obsolete, specialized regional standard, contractors frequently struggle to open it without purchasing expensive, niche software licenses. The file structure is keyword-oriented and entirely unsupported by standard office suites or web browsers. Furthermore, modern construction data exchange now heavily favors the XML-based X83 format, leaving .p83 as an annoying legacy hurdle.
