About IXF files
The .IXF file extension primarily represents an Integration Exchange Format file used by IBM Db2 database systems. These files store relational database tables, data structures, and records for importing and exporting between different DB2 instances. Secondary uses for .IXF files include storing tribometer measurement data generated by Anton Paar INSTRUMX software, older game data for SimCity 3000, and tensile structure analysis models for technet GmbH ixCube.
Because the .IXF format is heavily tied to specific, proprietary database and industrial software ecosystems, it is highly restrictive. IBM DB2's IXF is a specialized binary format that cannot be directly opened in a standard text editor. Users face significant challenges when trying to migrate data out of DB2 into modern, open-source databases or spreadsheet tools. Opening Anton Paar tribology data outside of their licensed instrumentation software is equally frustrating, as the data is locked behind expensive proprietary tools.
When dealing with IBM DB2 data, the best conversion targets are CSV, SQL, or JSON to ensure broad compatibility with other relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL. However, converting highly structured binary data may result in the loss of specific DB2 index definitions or proprietary data types. For tribometer data, exporting to XLSX or CSV is ideal for independent analysis.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because its encoding schemas are undocumented or legally protected. Standard online converters fail to process it because they lack the specific parsing logic required by IBM or Anton Paar. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our system will identify the exact file signature, inspect the internal headers, and attempt to extract readable text. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IXF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted LXF, P83, DFX, YMA and CSV files.

The IXF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IXF converter.
