About P3M files

A .P3M file primarily functions as a proprietary 3D model container used by the Enfusion Engine, the core technology behind modern Bohemia Interactive games like Arma Reforger. These files store 3D mesh geometry, LODs (Levels of Detail), and material definitions required for in-game rendering. Alternatively, a small percentage of .P3M files are Adobe Photoshop 3D Material Presets. These store surface textures and lighting responses for Photoshop's legacy 3D engine. The main disadvantage of the .P3M format is its closed, proprietary nature. Standard 3D suites like Blender or Autodesk Maya cannot natively read Enfusion .P3M files. Users typically need to convert these into universal standards like FBX or OBJ for modding or editing. Similarly, Photoshop 3D features have been deprecated, making legacy .P3M material files difficult to use without an older software version or an active Adobe subscription. Because this file format is highly specialized, it is difficult to open or convert. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. Standard online converters frequently fail to parse the proprietary mesh data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
