About OWG files
The .OWG file is an OutWit Gear Database created by OutWit Technologies. These files are primarily used to store web scraping configurations, data extraction macros, and the raw datasets captured during automated scraping sessions.
This format is heavily proprietary and closed. One of its main disadvantages is that it locks your scraped data inside a vendor-specific database. Files can quickly exceed several gigabytes because they cache raw HTML and images alongside the tabular data. Sharing an .OWG file with a client or data analyst is impractical, as they cannot open it without purchasing and installing OutWit Hub or OutWit Gear.
To make the data usable, users typically need to convert the .OWG extraction results into standard, universally accepted formats like CSV, JSON, or XML. These target formats can be seamlessly imported into standard spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel or ingested into corporate database pipelines.
Because of its proprietary database structure, .OWG is exceptionally difficult to open or convert with third-party tools. Often, only the original OutWit software can properly parse the scraping rules and export the structured data. If our analysis detects an embedded standard database architecture (like SQLite), viewing or partial conversion of the tables may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OWG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The OWG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OWG converter.
