About OSA files

The .OSA file extension is primarily associated with Optical Spectrum Analyzer data files generated by Viavi Solutions (formerly JDSU) testing equipment, such as the MTS 8000. These files store highly specific fiber optic measurement data used by telecom technicians to analyze light signals. A secondary, but critical use case, is for Sleep Apnea Test results generated by ResMed ApneaLink software. In medical contexts, these contain continuous positive airway pressure (CAP) and breathing event data. Other rarer uses include serialized SLAM map atlases for the ORB-SLAM2 project, encrypted anamnesis data for Orthoscribe software, game audio archives for the Codemasters Overlord series, and ZIP-compressed Open Simulation Archive files for the Modelica Association.

The primary disadvantage of an .OSA file is that it is strictly proprietary. You cannot open these files natively in Windows or macOS, and they are not supported by standard web browsers. Viewing telecom optical data requires dedicated and expensive Viavi software suites. Similarly, reviewing ResMed sleep study data requires proprietary medical software. Users typically need to convert these files to CSV, PDF, or TXT to share reports with clients or doctors. Game audio files need extraction to standard WAV or MP3 formats, while simulation data requires unzipping.

Converting .OSA files is notoriously difficult because they use closed, proprietary binary structures or proprietary encryption. Standard online converters fail to process them because the encoding depends heavily on the original hardware. Often, only the original equipment or clinical software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as the ZIP structure in Open Simulation Archives - viewing or extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your OSA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PDF, VTK, CXL and LCP files.

The OSA Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OSA converter.
