About OPM files

The .OPM file extension is heavily fragmented and serves multiple unrelated purposes depending on the software environment. The most common use is as a Romanian bulk payment file utilized by banking platforms like BCR Click 24 and Banca Transilvania to process mass transactions. Another major use is as an XML-based software extension package for the OTRS Help Desk System, storing configuration and module updates. Furthermore, the telecommunications industry uses .OPM files as optical power meter test data files (formatted in JSON or UTF-8 text) generated by hardware like the EXFO OTDR Smart Link Analyzer and Viavi Solutions FiberChekPRO. Finally, it functions as a sound bank parameter file for the MiOPMdrv sound driver.

Opening an .OPM file directly is challenging because standard operating systems cannot guess which specific software created it. The banking files require specialized local banking clients, while the test data files require proprietary telecom software costing thousands of dollars. The major disadvantage is that this format locks your data inside vendor-specific ecosystems. It is highly proprietary and lacks native support in standard web browsers or office software.

If you need to extract the data, your target format depends heavily on the underlying structure. An OTRS package or a telecom test file might convert cleanly to XML, JSON, or CSV for easier analysis in Microsoft Excel. However, banking payment files often rely on rigid, fixed-width text formats where conversion might invalidate the checksums and break the file entirely.

Because .OPM files are often closed and proprietary, standard online converters usually fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like XML or JSON, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your OPM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CLIENT, EFF, ERG and RPM files.

The OPM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OPM converter.
