About ODOC files

A .ODOC file is a proprietary document pointer created by Synology Office, a web-based collaboration suite hosted on a Synology NAS. Unlike a standard document file, a .ODOC file does not contain the actual text, images, or formatting data. Instead, it acts as a lightweight web shortcut that links your browser to the live database entry stored securely on your private server.

The primary disadvantage of the .ODOC format is its absolute dependence on the Synology ecosystem. If you download this file to your local hard drive and email it to someone outside your network, they will not be able to open it. It is heavily locked into the original server environment and is not supported by standard offline word processors like Microsoft Word or online alternatives like Google Docs. To share the actual readable content, users must manually export the document from within the Synology web interface.

When exporting, the best target formats are DOCX for maximum editing compatibility or PDF for fixed-layout viewing and printing. Because a .ODOC file is merely a pointer, standard online converters will instantly fail to process it - there is simply no document text inside the file payload to extract. Explain clearly why standard online converters fail to process it: they cannot authenticate into your private NAS to download the actual text. Often, only the original Synology software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ODOC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
