Convert a file to OCE

To convert other file formats to the "Database Connection File" file type, you need software like Oracle Hyperion Brio or a similar tool.

About OCE files

The .OCE file format is primarily associated with Oracle enterprise software. Most commonly, it acts as a connection file for Oracle Hyperion Brio (formerly BrioQuery), storing database connection parameters and query configurations as an Open Catalog Extension. Another frequent use is for saving cloud architecture cost projections from the Oracle Cloud Cost Estimator. Additionally, in Bolivia, the Bolivian Education Information System uses this extension for student registration data.

The main disadvantage of .OCE files is that they are highly proprietary and tightly coupled to specific, often legacy, enterprise systems. Opening a BrioQuery .OCE file without the original Brio software or a compatible Hyperion workspace is practically impossible. The data is locked behind specialized formatting, meaning standard text editors or generic database tools cannot interpret the connection strings or query logic accurately. They require expensive, bulky enterprise software to access.

Users often need to convert .OCE files to standard formats like CSV, SQL, or PDF to share query results, connection parameters, or cost estimates with stakeholders who do not have Oracle software installed. However, standard online converters fail because the format is closed and undocumented.

Because this is a closed, proprietary format, third-party conversion is extremely difficult. Usually, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible. Just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported.

Convert.Guru analyzes your OCE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SHAREDVIEW and SDE files.

The OCE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OCE converter.
