Convert OCD to another file type
To convert OCD maps to another format, you need OCAD or other GIS software.
Convert a file to OCD
To convert other file formats to the "Cartography Vector Map" file type, you need software like OCAD or a similar tool.
About OCD files
The .ocd file extension is primarily used for Orienteering map files created by OCAD mapping software. These files store highly specialized vector graphics, custom cartographic symbols, and precise spatial data required for designing orienteering courses, city maps, and topographic layouts. The primary disadvantage of the .ocd format is its strict, proprietary nature. It is a niche, closed system. Standard vector graphic editors like Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW cannot natively parse these files without a dedicated import plugin or prior export by the author. Furthermore, these files require expensive, specialized software licenses just to open, and they are completely unsupported by standard web browsers. To share or edit this data effectively outside of its native ecosystem, users must convert the .ocd file to universally supported target formats. Converting to .PDF or .SVG preserves the vector paths and infinite scalability for printing. Converting to .DXF is ideal for CAD environments, while exporting to .PNG or .JPG is best for simple web viewing. Note that proprietary symbols or complex map layers may flatten or lose editability during conversion. Because this is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters often fail to process it. Often, only the original OCAD software can properly read or export the complex map data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible. For instance, some variations of .ocd files, such as Oracle Cerner CareAware diagnostic packages or OpenCPN mapping files, utilize standard BZ2 or ZIP compression under the hood, which our tool can unpack and analyze.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OCD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert OCD file to PDF, SHP, KML, KMZ, GPX, GEOJSON, TOPOJSON, TIF, TIFF, ECW, SID or IMG, you can use OCAD or similar software from the "Orienteering Map Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert LAZ, KMZ, DTM, CSV, DEM, PRJ, LAS, GPX, DSM, SHP, DBF or KML files to OCD, try OCAD or another comparable tool in the "Orienteering Map Storage" category.
The OCD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OCD converter.
