Convert NVM to another file type

To convert your NVM file to another format, you need VisualSFM or other 3D software.

Convert a file to NVM

To convert other file formats to the "Structure from Motion" file type, you need software like VisualSFM or a similar tool.

About NVM files

The .nvm file extension is predominantly associated with N-View Match files generated by VisualSFM, a GUI application for 3D reconstruction using Structure from Motion (SfM). These ASCII-based files store critical photogrammetry data, including the relative pose of cameras (focal length, quaternions, and centers) and a sparse 3D point cloud derived from feature matches across multiple images. While efficient for the SfM pipeline, the format is highly specialized and often incompatible with standard 3D modeling tools like Blender or general-purpose viewers. Users typically need to convert .nvm files into widely supported formats like PLY (Polygon File Format) or OBJ to perform dense reconstruction, mesh generation, or surface refining in software like MeshLab.

A secondary, distinct use of the extension is for Qualcomm Atheros powerline adapter firmware. These binary files (often named mac-00.nvm or similar) contain low-level configuration data for network interface controllers (NICs). Attempting to open these as text or 3D models will result in garbled data. For VisualSFM users, the workflow involves converting the sparse cloud to PLY for downstream processing. For network engineers, these files are strictly for flashing hardware via utilities like nvm-tool and should not be converted for viewing.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NVM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PS2, 0000000100000001STR and NIP files.

FAQ

If you want to convert NVM file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use VisualSFM or similar software from the "Photogrammetry Project File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to NVM, try VisualSFM or another comparable tool in the "Photogrammetry Project File" category.

The NVM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NVM converter.
