Convert NVM to another file type

To convert NVM data files to another format, you need VisualSFM or other Data software.

Convert a file to NVM

To convert other file formats to the "3D Reconstruction File" file type, you need software like VisualSFM or a similar tool.

About NVM files

A .NVM file is primarily a Structure from Motion (SfM) data file created by VisualSFM. It contains 3D reconstruction point clouds, camera positions, and matching feature data used in photogrammetry workflows. Additionally, the .NVM extension functions as a firmware update file for Qualcomm Atheros powerline adapters, a navigation message file for Applanix POS MV positioning systems, and a non-volatile memory backup for mobile phones using JMAXX. The biggest disadvantage of a .NVM file is its proprietary and fragmented nature. Standard text editors or common 3D modeling programs cannot open raw .NVM files natively because they store specialized mathematical point data rather than render-ready polygons. In the case of hardware-specific .NVM files, they are strict binary files designed exclusively for microcontrollers. Tampering with these without exact OEM tools can instantly brick your hardware. VisualSFM users frequently need to convert .NVM point cloud data into more universal 3D formats. The best conversion targets are PLY (Polygon File Format) or OBJ for mesh generation in tools like MeshLab. Be aware that converting to standard 3D meshes loses the specific camera focal length metadata used during the photogrammetry calculation process. This file format is difficult to open or convert because it lacks industry standardization and serves entirely different purposes depending on the software that created it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NVM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PS2, 0000000100000001STR and NIP files.

FAQ

If you want to convert NVM file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use VisualSFM or similar software from the "3D Reconstruction Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to NVM, try VisualSFM or another comparable tool in the "3D Reconstruction Data Storage" category.

The NVM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NVM converter.
