About NMAP files

The .NMAP file extension is primarily used for NaviComputer Map files. These files contain offline map tiles and route data used by NaviComputer, a discontinued GPS tracking and navigation application originally built for legacy Windows Mobile and Windows Phone devices. By storing map segments locally, users could navigate remote areas without an active internet connection.

However, the .NMAP format is now severely outdated. It is a proprietary container tied to a dead mobile ecosystem. These files often exceed several hundred megabytes, lack support from modern web browsers, and cannot be opened natively by modern GIS applications like QGIS or ArcGIS.

Users typically want to convert .NMAP files to salvage their offline map data. The ideal solution is extracting the internal tiles into standard raster formats like PNG or JPG, or migrating the entire dataset to modern offline map containers like MBTILES. Because this is a closed, proprietary database, standard online converters completely fail to process it.

This format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because only the original NaviComputer software was designed to read its specific file structure. We can inspect the file's binary signature and show internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying SQLite database or embedded standard image files, viewing or extracting the tiles may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NMAP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GNMAP, XML, CSV and HTML files.

The NMAP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NMAP converter.
