About NGT files

The .NGT file is a proprietary geographic information system (GIS) track log created by Noni GPSPlot, a legacy software application for Windows Mobile and Pocket PC devices. It records a continuous series of time-stamped geographical waypoints logged from an attached GPS receiver. Users traditionally relied on these files to map streets, save hiking routes, or capture geographical boundaries completely offline.

Because .NGT is a closed, proprietary format designed for obsolete PDA hardware, it presents significant usability challenges today. Modern mapping software, web browsers, and standard smartphone apps cannot natively read the data. Standard online converters often fail because the binary encoding is undocumented, meaning usually only the original software can properly read or export the track data. To view historical routes in modern tools like Google Earth or Garmin BaseCamp, you must convert the .NGT file into universal standards like GPX (GPS Exchange Format) or KML (Keyhole Markup Language). Converting to these targets ensures broad compatibility while retaining vital longitude, latitude, and timestamp data, though specific Noni GPSPlot interface settings are naturally lost. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded text structure, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your NGT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The NGT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NGT converter.
