About MYS files

The .MYS extension creates a frustrating duality for users: you likely hold either a proprietary channel configuration file from a MYTV satellite receiver or a locked data vault created by the legacy MySecret encryption utility.

In the case of MYTV files (approx. 25% of shares), these serve as a backup of your channel tuning and sorting preferences, exported via USB from set-top boxes (common in Malaysia and Nigeria). The friction here is high - these are not standard text files. You cannot simply double-click to edit your channel order in Notepad++. They often require specific, clunky proprietary channel editors (like SetEdit or AliEditor) to view or modify effectively. Users typically want to convert these to XML, UDF, or CSV to reorder channels on a PC before re-uploading to the box.

Alternatively, if your file is from MySecret (approx. 23%), it is an encrypted container holding sensitive documents, often named like document.doc.mys. Without the original software and password, the content is essentially random noise. The only true "conversion" here is decryption back to the original format (e.g., DOCX, JPG, PDF).

A rare third possibility is a Vineyard Captured Video file or an asset from the game Myst, though these are legacy formats with minimal modern support.
