About MYDOCS files

The .MYDOCS file is a specialized system shortcut utilized by Microsoft Windows. It serves a single purpose: powering the "My Documents" option found in the Windows right-click "Send To" context menu. Unlike standard Windows shortcut files (LNK), a .MYDOCS file is an empty system marker. The operating system relies entirely on the file extension itself to trigger the hardcoded action of routing selected items to the current user's default Documents library.

Users frequently attempt to convert .MYDOCS files because they mistakenly believe the file contains their personal text or data. This usually happens when someone accidentally copies the system shortcut from the hidden AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo directory instead of selecting their actual document. The primary disadvantage of this format is this severe user confusion. Because it is a 0-byte system trigger, it holds no readable content, cannot be opened by typical software, and is completely unsupported by web browsers and document editors like Microsoft Word.

Converting a legitimate .MYDOCS file to PDF, DOCX, or TXT is technically impossible because there is no source data to convert. It is a closed, proprietary system function. Standard online converters fail to process it, often throwing generic "invalid file" errors because they look for document headers that do not exist. If our analysis detects that someone simply renamed a standard text file or image to have a .MYDOCS extension, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MYDOCS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
