About MXC files
The .MXC file extension is primarily used for Multitrack Audio Session files by digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Magix Music Maker and the legacy Syntrillium Cool Edit Pro. These files utilize an internal RIFF structure to save project data. Alternatively, .MXC files can function as CAD material catalog files for specialized interior design software like Corpus CAD and PRO100. Rarely, they are obscure MaxiCompress Archives.
The main disadvantage of the .MXC format is its proprietary, fragmented nature. If your file is an audio session, the .MXC file itself does not contain any actual sound data. It only holds timeline edits, effect settings, and file paths pointing to local audio files on your hard drive. Sharing an .MXC file without the accompanying source media renders it completely useless to the recipient. If your file is a CAD material database, it is locked behind expensive, niche software and cannot be natively read by standard operating systems.
Because these files are essentially project blueprints or proprietary databases, standard online media converters cannot process them. Exporting an audio .MXC to a standard format like MP3 or WAV strictly requires the original audio software to render the mixdown.
However, you can still figure out exactly what your file is. Just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the format, inspect the internal file signatures, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects standard text or embedded metadata, viewing the contents might still be achievable.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MXC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The MXC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MXC converter.
