Extract text from MWT files
To convert your MWT file to another format, you need MetaStock or other Settings software.
To convert other file formats to the "Configuration Template" file type, you need software like MetaStock or a similar tool.
The .mwt extension is shared by two distinct proprietary ecosystems, creating significant confusion for users. Most commonly, it is a MetaStock Stock Analysis Template, used by traders to save chart layouts, indicators, and technical analysis setups without including the underlying instrument data. These files are strictly internal to MetaStock; they are not standard spreadsheets and cannot be opened by Microsoft Excel or text editors.
Alternatively, in industrial automation, an .mwt file functions as a PLC Project Template. This format, often based on the Microsoft Compound document standard, is utilized by engineering environments like CODESYS and Mitsubishi Works. These files store reusable logic, device configurations, and project structures for programmable logic controllers.
The Core Problem: Both formats are heavily locked down. A trader cannot view an .mwt template on a mobile device or web browser, and an engineer cannot review PLC logic without installing the specific (and often expensive) development environment.
