About MTE files
.MTE files primarily function as Mitutoyo measurement report templates used by Mitutoyo MeasurLink or MCOSMOS software. Secondary uses include Mp3tag Export Configuration files and MadTracker 2 Envelopes. These Mitutoyo templates are highly proprietary and require expensive, specialized Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) software to open and modify. This creates a major bottleneck when sharing metrology inspection results with clients or colleagues who do not hold a Mitutoyo software license. Users typically need to convert these reports to universal formats like PDF or CSV for accessibility and sharing. However, standard online converters fail to process the .MTE file because it is a closed, proprietary format. Often, only the original Mitutoyo software can properly read or export the geometric data. Despite this limitation, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the binary file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible. For Mp3tag export configurations, the .MTE file is simply a text-based script used to generate custom playlists or reports from MP3 metadata, which can be easily viewed and edited.

The MTE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MTE converter.
