About MTC files
The .MTC file is a proprietary project file created by Make the Cut!, a specialized desktop application used for electronic scrapbooking and vinyl cutting. These files store vector shapes, text layouts, and machine-specific cutting parameters used to control desktop die-cutting machines like Klic-N-Kut, Silhouette, and older Cricut models.
This format poses significant challenges because it is entirely closed. Users often face extreme vendor lock-in. You cannot open an .MTC file natively in web browsers, nor can you import it directly into standard vector software like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape. Sharing these designs with clients or friends requires the recipient to purchase and install the Make the Cut! software, which has limited support on modern operating systems.
To make these files usable across different platforms, you need to convert them to standard vector formats. The best target format is SVG, which preserves the mathematical cutting paths for use in software like Cricut Design Space or Silhouette Studio. Converting to PDF or PNG is also useful for visual sharing, though you lose the specific blade pressure and machine offset settings originally stored in the project.
Because .MTC is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original software can reliably read and export the full data. Our system will inspect the binary structure of your .MTC file to identify embedded preview images or raw XML vector data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format, viewing or conversion may still be possible without the original software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MTC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The MTC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MTC converter.
