The .MP13 file is a proprietary circuit design project file created by NI Multisim 13 (formerly Electronics Workbench). These files store electronic schematics, custom component libraries, and complex SPICE simulation parameters used by electrical engineers to design and test circuit behavior.
This format is highly restrictive and presents major disadvantages for sharing. It is proprietary to National Instruments. The files require an expensive, specialized software license to open and are generally restricted to the Windows operating system. You cannot open a .MP13 file natively in a web browser, and text editors will only show scrambled binary data. Furthermore, it lacks backward compatibility; older versions of the software cannot open version 13 projects.
Because of these severe limitations, users constantly need to convert .MP13 files to accessible formats for stakeholders or clients. The best conversion targets are PDF, PNG, or JPG for sharing visual schematics, or standard SPICE netlists for cross-platform simulation. However, converting to an image or document format means you will lose all interactive simulation data, live routing, and embedded component properties.
