To convert other file formats to the "Motion Graphics Template" file type, you need software like Apple Motion or a similar tool.
About MOTI files
A .MOTI file is an Apple Motion Title Project Template used exclusively to design, store, and animate custom text effects, lower thirds, and titles. These templates are created in Apple Motion and published directly for use in Final Cut Pro. The format stores project configurations, keyframes, vector paths, and text properties.
The biggest disadvantage of the .MOTI format is its strict vendor lock-in. It is proprietary to the Apple ecosystem and requires a paid license for Apple's professional video software to open. You cannot open these files natively on Windows, Linux, or in standard web browsers. Because a .MOTI file is not a standard video stream but an XML-based instruction set, traditional video converters cannot process it. Rendering the visual output requires the proprietary Apple Motion graphics engine.
To use a .MOTI title in software like Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, you must convert it by exporting the project from Apple Motion. The best conversion target is a MOV file using the ProRes 4444 codec, which preserves the alpha channel (transparency) necessary for overlaying text. For simple web playback, converting to MP4 is ideal, though you will lose background transparency.
Because this file format is proprietary and relies on external rendering engines, it is difficult to convert directly online. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Our analysis can detect the underlying XML structure of the .MOTI file, allowing you to view and extract raw text, font data, and configuration parameters even if you do not own a Mac.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MOTI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MOTI file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use Apple Motion or similar software from the "Video Title Animation Template" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The MOTI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MOTI converter.
