About MMW files

The .mmw file extension functions primarily as a Microsoft Media Catalog file utilized by older versions of Microsoft Office and the discontinued Microsoft Clip Organizer. These files are designed to index and store metadata for clip art, images, and other media assets. Curiously, in some configurations, these catalog files are structured internally as an .EXE (Windows executable file). A secondary use for the .mmw extension is as an AceMoney Money File, generated by MechCAD AceMoney, a desktop personal finance manager used to track transaction records, account balances, and budgeting data. Both formats present significant challenges. The Microsoft Clip Organizer is obsolete, rendering its proprietary catalog files useless on modern operating systems. AceMoney files lock your sensitive financial history into a closed ecosystem, requiring a paid application to access your own data. This severe lack of interoperability is a major disadvantage.
