About MFL files

The .MFL file extension primarily represents a Managed Object Format Localized file used by Microsoft Windows. These files function as part of the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) system. They typically use UTF-16 (LE) encoding and contain localized class definitions that describe network resources and system policies. Administrators typically compile them using the built-in mofcomp.exe utility. Alternatively, .MFL files can also act as Mozilla FastLoad or component cache files used by Mozilla Firefox to speed up browser startup, or as proprietary ModFit LT Analysis Report files developed by Verity Software House.

The main disadvantage of an .MFL file is its hyper-specific, locked-in system role. WMI files are system-level developer components that average users cannot read without specialized Windows administrative tools or advanced code editors. Meanwhile, Mozilla FastLoad files are proprietary, binary caches that are completely unreadable outside the browser environment and are prone to corruption, causing UI glitches and bloating disk space. Users generally need to convert WMI .MFL text files to standard TXT or XML formats to audit system policies easily. If dealing with ModFit LT, users often need to export reports to PDF to share flow cytometry analysis results with colleagues who do not own a $50/month software subscription.

Because .MFL encompasses both readable text structures (WMI) and compiled binary caches (Mozilla), standard online converters usually fail to process it. WMI files are highly context-dependent, and FastLoad files contain proprietary bytecode. Often, only the original operating system or application can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view its internal text, and convert it when possible using convert.guru. If our system detects a supported underlying text or embedded format, viewing the content or extracting the readable data remains achievable.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MFL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BCK, CDF-MS and AUTOMATICDESTINATIONS-MS files.

The MFL Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MFL converter.
