About MFL files
The .MFL file extension primarily denotes a Managed Object Format Localized file, a specialized system component used by Microsoft Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). These files contain language-specific strings and class descriptions that accompany language-neutral MOF files, allowing administrators to script system tasks in various locales. While critical for system management, working with raw .MFL files is frustrating because they are encoded in specific UTF-16 formats that standard text editors may misinterpret, and they are functionally useless outside the Windows WMI infrastructure. Users rarely need to 'convert' them for consumption, but rather need to inspect their contents or debug compilation errors.
For inspection or documentation, the best workflow is converting .MFL to plain TXT or viewing them in a code editor like Visual Studio Code or Notepad++. If the goal is system implementation, these files are not converted but compiled into the WMI repository using the command-line tool mofcomp.exe.
Note: In legacy contexts, an .MFL file might be a Mozilla FastLoad file, a binary cache used by older versions of Mozilla Firefox to speed up XUL interface loading. These files are notorious for becoming corrupted and causing browser crashes. You cannot convert these meaningfuly; the standard solution is to delete them so the browser generates a fresh version.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MFL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted BCK, CDF-MS and AUTOMATICDESTINATIONS-MS files.

The MFL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MFL converter.
