The .MELLEL file format is a proprietary document created by Mellel, a specialized word processor developed by RedleX for macOS and iPadOS. It is heavily used by academics, scholars, and technical writers because it excels at handling massive documents, complex bibliographies, and right-to-left languages like Hebrew and Arabic.
Users face significant challenges when sharing these files. The format is tightly locked into the Apple ecosystem. It is proprietary. You cannot open a .MELLEL file natively in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice.
