About MCMAC files

The .mcmac file is a proprietary recipe database created by MasterCook specifically for Mac computers, historically published by Mariner Software. It stores structured culinary data, including ingredients, cooking instructions, yields, and nutritional information. Users need to convert this file because it is severely restricted by vendor lock-in. It requires a paid, legacy software environment to open. Modern macOS environments often block older 32-bit MasterCook applications, rendering the recipes inaccessible. Furthermore, the .mcmac format is not compatible with web browsers, mobile devices, or even the Windows version of MasterCook out of the box.

The best conversion targets are TXT, PDF, or HTML for universal reading, or MXP if migrating to a newer MasterCook system. Converting to plain text or document formats will preserve the recipe instructions but destroy dynamic database features, such as automatic portion scaling and nutritional calculators.

This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because it is a closed, undocumented database. Standard online converters fail to process it because they lack the proprietary parsing engine. Often, only the original MasterCook software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded text format, viewing or partial text extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MCMAC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
