About MC6 files
A .mc6 file is a Poser Material Collection file utilized by the 3D rendering software Poser. These files store complex material node networks, defining how light interacts with 3D surfaces via textures, bumps, and reflections. The main disadvantage of the .mc6 format is its proprietary, closed nature. It is heavily tied to the Poser ecosystem, making it incompatible with standard web browsers, 2D image viewers, or competing 3D suites like Blender natively. Furthermore, .mc6 files do not contain the actual texture image data; they only store text-based directory paths pointing to external JPG or PNG files on the user's local hard drive. If those external images are moved or missing, the material breaks entirely. To use these materials in other software, users must typically apply them to a model inside Poser and export the scene to universally supported 3D formats like OBJ (which generates a matching MTL material file) or FBX. Standard online converters usually fail to process .mc6 files because they lack access to the external image textures and Poser's proprietary rendering engine. Because the underlying data is often text-based, our analysis can help you inspect the raw code to find the exact file paths of your missing textures.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MC6 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MC6 file to OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D, STL, PLY or WRL, you can use Poser or similar software from the "3D Material Settings Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to MC6, try Poser or another comparable tool in the "3D Material Settings Storage" category.
The MC6 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MC6 converter.
