To convert other file formats to the "Statistical Analysis Data" file type, you need software like MedCalc or a similar tool.
About MC1 files
The .MC1 file extension is the proprietary data container for MedCalc, a statistical software package widely used in biomedical research. Internally, these files are often structured as Microsoft Compound Documents (OLE), storing not just raw spreadsheet rows, but also variable definitions, filters, graphs, and statistical notes.
The Problem: Because .MC1 files are complex binary containers, they cannot be opened by standard spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel or text editors like Notepad. A common source of friction is version incompatibility: files saved in MedCalc version 22 or later use a newer, faster format that older versions of the software cannot read. Additionally, sharing these files with colleagues who do not have a paid MedCalc license is difficult, as they cannot view the data without installing specific viewer software.
The Solution: To make the data accessible for editing or publication, the file must be converted.
For General Editing: Convert to XLSX (Excel). This preserves the data structure but may lose specific statistical metadata or active graphs.
For Data Exchange: Convert to CSV. This creates a universal text format readable by any system, including Python or R, but strips all formatting and graphs.
For Advanced Analysis: Convert to SAV (SPSS) if moving to the IBM ecosystem.
Users without a license can use the free MedCalc File Viewer to open the file and copy data, though direct conversion usually requires the full software's "Save As" function.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MC1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The MC1 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MC1 converter.
