About MBV files
The .MBV file extension represents two distinct, proprietary formats that often confuse users looking for standard video files.
Game Motion Data (Primary Use): Found in Sega titles like the Yakuza series or Konami games like Metal Gear Solid V, this is a binary animation file. It stores character movement vectors (skeleton bone rotations, keyframes) often derived from Autodesk MotionBuilder. These are not video files; they are mathematical instructions for the game engine. You cannot "play" them. To use this data, modders must import the file into Blender using specific community-made scripts (e.g., Fox Engine importers) and then export to FBX or BVH for animation work.
Magix Project Backup: Users of Magix Movie Studio (formerly Movie Edit Pro) encounter .MBV files as automatic backups of their video projects. These files contain timeline metadata - edits, cuts, and effect settings - not the actual video footage. Attempting to convert this directly to MP4 or AVI via an online converter will fail because the file contains no pixel data. The only way to "convert" it is to open the backup in the Magix software and render the project properly.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MBV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted SNAPFIRESHOW and SNAPFIREPROJECT files.

The MBV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MBV converter.
