To convert other file formats to the "Data Migration Model" file type, you need software like Marshal Editor or a similar tool.
About MARSHAL files
.MARSHAL files are Data Migration Model files originally developed by RISE to Bloome Software for their Marshal Editor. They store the settings, XML schemas, and data mapping configurations used when transferring or archiving data between different database platforms. These files were historically used alongside the Marshal SQLUtility and Marshal Archiver to automate scheduled database jobs.
The main disadvantage of the .MARSHAL format is its reliance on a legacy, proprietary software suite that is essentially obsolete today. Opening these files directly is extremely frustrating because standard database management systems (like MySQL or PostgreSQL) cannot interpret the proprietary schema. Furthermore, generic online converters fail to process it because they expect standard database dumps, not a proprietary configuration map.
Because the underlying data is stored as structural code, your best option is converting the file to XML, TXT, or JSON. This allows you to salvage the raw schema mapping and read the table structures without the original software. While the automated migration features will be lost, the critical database mapping data remains intact.
This format is notoriously difficult to execute without the original suite.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MARSHAL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MARSHAL file to PYC, DB, SQLITE, SQLITE3, MDB, ACCDB, DBF, ODB, FDB, GDB, MYD or FRM, you can use Marshal Editor or similar software from the "Database Migration Mapping Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert NDF, SQLITE3, BAK, RDB, SQL, DB4, MDF, MDB, LDF, DB, DB3 or SQLITE files to MARSHAL, try Marshal Editor or another comparable tool in the "Database Migration Mapping Storage" category.
The MARSHAL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MARSHAL converter.
